Toronto’s grassroots climate finance action network — with members from Toronto350, Fridays for Future, For Our Kids TO, Banking on a Better Future, PHP4Climate, GASP, ARCA and more — is really getting up to speed in July. So far this month, we’ve run a Bad Google Review party for RBC, done new research comparing banks and credit unions, faxed Scotia, postered several neighbourhoods, started planning to reach out to environmental groups funded by TD’s Friends of the Environment Foundation and held a snap action calling out the banks for funding the projects that caused 2021’s unprecedented heat wave.

What’s up next?

Bikes Vs. Bank$ is going to be a fun bike ride and protest along Bloor Street with stops at several bank branches. You can RSVP on Facebook or just show up at the South East Corner of Christie Pits around 11am on July 24th.

People had a lot of fun at our first Bad Google Review Party, SO WE’RE DOING IT AGAIN. On July 29th at 8PM on Zoom, we’re having a second edition with a focus on TD Bank! RSVP on EVENTBRITE to get the Zoom Link. All the banks have their own special reasons that they might be the worst climate criminals — for TD, it’s the fact that they run a ‘Friends of the Environment Foundation’ and fund things like eco-schools while also stealing children’s future by pouring billions into fossil fuel expansion, year after year after year. Yuck!
In addition to the two scheduled events there are plenty more — including simultaneous banner drops, street theatre and a travelling, inflatable elephant — still in the planning stages. Sign-up here if you want to get involved in future projects.
